Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports the independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates operating health centers across the U.S. Planned Parenthood Action Fund is an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit membership organization formed as the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The Action Fund engages in educational, advocacy, and electoral activity, including grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and voter education.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and Planned Parenthood Action Fund seeks an effective and thoughtful Specialist, Advocacy, and Policy Initiatives. This job reports to the VP, Public Policy & Government Affairs in the Government Relations department of PPFA. The Government Relations team develops and implements federal and state strategies for improved public policy, federal lobbying, federal administrative advocacy, state public policy initiatives, and support for affiliates.

Purpose:
The Specialist, Advocacy and Policy Initiatives, will support the development, execution, and alignment of strategy and programmatic initiatives, and provide administrative support for the Government Relations team. Reporting to the VP, Public Policy & Government Affairs, this role focuses on project managing cross-divisional initiatives; facilitating projects within the Government Relations team; and working to support a robust advocacy and policy strategy that responds to the everchanging abortion and reproductive health landscape.

Delivery:

  • Project Management
  • Support through Project Management the Government Relations team with cross-divisional advocacy efforts such as Re-Imagining Our Access and Rights (ROAR), State Fights, the Blueprint for Sexual and Reproductive Health, Rights, and Justice, and other efforts as they emerge.
  • Responsible for ensuring the continued integration and coordination between OEC, GR, Communications, Digital, and Litigation/Law in responding to policy developments.
  • Act as the first point of contact for Government Relations led cross-team projects and initiatives, collaborating with stakeholders across campaigns, communications, litigation and law, and digital to provide support and project management of legislative campaigns, including rapid response efforts.
  • Serve as a liaison to internal stakeholders, and present on relevant trends, policies, and goals

Administrative/Other

  • Lead scheduling, agenda setting, execution, and follow up for a range of internal and external Government Relations meetings.
  • Support the Vice President and other team leaders with preparation for internal and external presentations, including coordinating across teams and creation of slide decks.
  • Manage logistics for team events and retreats.
  • Execute contract development, invoice payment, and expense reconciliation in the Office of the Vice President and support Government
  • Relations coordinators with best practices and troubleshooting. Support annual contract renewals.
  • Build communications best practices to create transparency and strategic alignment across the organization and Government Relations team, as well as within the Government Relations team. Contribute to and/or lead the development of regular Government Relations and cross team memos.

Engagement:

  • Develop internal and external communications and provide appropriate direction, information, assistance, and follow-up across departments and within the Government Relations team and affiliate partners as needed.
  • Keen ability to collaborate and build relationships with leaders across national office divisions and other key stakeholders, including affiliates
  • Ensure diversity, equity, and inclusion are threaded into the core of Government Relations' work.
  • Strong judgment and discretion: able to exercise independent judgment about what to move, when to move, who to involve when, and what to share with whom; must have top-notch discretion and be able to keep the confidence of leadership in the division.

Knowledge, Skill, Abilities:

  • At least 3 years of directly related, progressively responsible program and policy experience
  • Ability to drive creative thinking and strategic planning from a range of stakeholders and lead the development and execution of new tactics designed to achieve goals.
  • Superb project management skills - ability to organize complex areas of work into clear processes that lead to great results. Proven track record of leading and managing various projects and juggling multiple time-sensitive priorities.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and the capacity to apply them both to strategic planning and project management
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, organizational and communication skills with the ability to build consensus and maintain confidentiality:
  • Able to work effectively with others at all positions levels, from board members and the executive team to peers and more junior colleagues
  • A team player with the ability to work well under pressure, coordinate multiple and simultaneous projects, good time management, and attention to detail
  • A deep commitment to Planned Parenthood’s mission of promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health

Travel:
0-10% domestic

$60,000 - $68,000 a year
Total offer package to include generous vacation sick leave paid holidays, individual/family provided medical, dental and vision benefits effective day 1, life insurance, short/long term disability, paid family leave and 401k. Roles that are denoted as NYC, DC, or both will work a hybrid schedule, requiring 2-3 days per week in the office unless the role is denoted as onsite, which requires working onsite full time or 5 days per week.
