Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Houston, specializing in the design, implementation, and maintenance of mechanical systems within healthcare facilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in HVAC, medical gas systems, and critical facility infrastructure that supports patient care and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and oversee mechanical systems for healthcare facilities including hospitals, clinics, and medical office buildings
- Develop and maintain HVAC systems that meet stringent healthcare standards for air quality, pressure differentials, and infection control
- Plan and implement medical gas distribution systems (oxygen, nitrous oxide, medical air, vacuum)
- Ensure compliance with healthcare codes and standards including ASHRAE 170, NFPA 99, and Joint Commission requirements
- Conduct system commissioning, testing, and validation for critical healthcare infrastructure
- Collaborate with architects, contractors, and healthcare facility managers on renovation and new construction projects
- Perform energy audits and implement efficiency improvements while maintaining critical system reliability
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical system issues in live healthcare environments
- Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and project documentation
- Manage project timelines and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
- Minimum 3 years of experience in mechanical engineering with specific focus on healthcare facilities
- Thorough knowledge of healthcare mechanical codes and standards
- Experience with critical systems design including emergency power, backup systems, and redundancy planning
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and mechanical design software
- Understanding of infection control principles and their impact on mechanical system design
- Strong project management and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- LEED AP certification
- Experience with commissioning and validation processes
- Knowledge of medical equipment requirements and their mechanical support needs
- Previous work with major healthcare systems or hospital networks
