Early Childhood Instructor (Part Time)

Come join Plainfield Park District's Early Childhood instructor team! The district has an immediate opening for a part-time instructor. The instructor may also substitute for other classrooms as needed.

Starting Salary is $16.75 per hour

Responsible for the coordination, development and implementation of recreation programs for young children. Overall focus is on creating an environment that promotes the educational, emotional, social, creative and physical needs of its participant’s age birth to 5 years.

Responsibilities include:

• Responsible for creating new and exciting classes/lesson plans for children age birth to 5 years.
• Prepare materials and plans activities.
• Maintains classroom behavior in an orderly fashion
• Establishes and maintains good communication with parents of participants.
• Maintains an open channel of communication to the Recreation Manager and informs Manager of problems or potential problems (ie disruptive behavior, injuries, dangerous equipment) including undesirable behaviors; assists with documentation when necessary.
• Maintains accurate records and submits them to the Recreation Manager as required. (i.e. –student attendance-class roster, staff time sheets, etc.)
• Carries out all directives from Recreation Manager.
• Uses time appropriately to prepare for different aspects of the educational program daily.
• Works cooperatively with other Great Adventures staff, PPD office staff, maintenance staff and Recreation Manager to ensure overall success in coordination and offering of assigned educational programs.
• Assures both neatness and securing of classroom at all times.
• Maintains inventory of program supplies and submits requests for materials to Rec Manager.
• Responsible for the ordered arrangement, décor, and learning environment of the classroom.
• Maintains records pertaining to the programs as required.
• Maintains knowledge of park district policies, procedures, and guidelines and upholding the policies and procedures of the District.
• Performs all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the Park District’s safety program.
• Performs any additional related tasks as required

• 2 years practical experience in early childhood instructional experience.
• Certificate in Early Childhood Education preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered.
• Demonstrated ability to work with children of all ages and varying levels of educational,emotional, social, creative, and physical needs.
• C.P.R. and First Aid Certification certified required; ability to certify at time of hire.
• Must have the ability to communicate instructions in a professional and enthusiastic manner.
• Must have strong interpersonal skills and work well with the public and other staff.
• Ability to establish a positive rapport by using tact and discretion with participants, parents and staff.
• Must be detail oriented to be able to process information accurately.
