Job Description
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
• Under the direction of the site principal or designee, to create a learning environment and plan and provide an instructional program to fulfill the educational objectives of the grade level/classes assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
(Basic functions include, but are not limited to)
• Establish and maintain standards of student behavior, consistent with school/district behavior standards, needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment
• Develop with supervisor objectives for his/her work and then implement a standards-based curriculum and instructional program
• Plan learning activities appropriate to subject(s), grade level(s), abilities, attitudes and cultural background of individual students
• Monitor and evaluate the progress and performance of students
• Communicate with students, parents/guardians, teaching team members and administration to discuss the individual student’s progress
• Advise and counsel students and cooperate with other staff members in assessing and helping students solve academic, health, attitude, and learning problems
• Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day
• Participate in adjunct activities according to collective bargaining agreement
• Maintain professional competence through professional growth activities
• Responsible for teaching the prescribed district course of study and the appropriate district and state standards
• Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports related to assigned activities, student progress, and behavior
• Operate a variety of office and classroom equipment including computer hardware and software
• Perform related duties as assigned
DEMONSTRATED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
• Basic subjects taught in district schools including mathematics, reading, writing, language arts and spelling
• Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary
• Child guidance principles and practices related to children in grades TK-8
• Classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct
• Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures
• Oral and written communication skills
• Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy
• Record-keeping and report preparation techniques
• Operation of standard office and classroom equipment including a computer and assigned software
ABILITY TO:
• Understand and relate to all students
• Learn district organization, operations, policies and objectives
• Learn department and program objectives and goals
• Interpret, apply and explain policies, procedures, rules and regulations
• Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
• Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
• Prioritize and schedule work
• Maintain records and prepare reports
• Operate standard office and classroom equipment including a computer and assigned software
• Maintain consistent, punctual and regular attendance
• Move hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard
• Hear and speak to exchange information
• See to read a variety of materials
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Valid California credential authorizing service in the appropriate grade level and/or subject area
• CLAD/CTEL (or equivalent) certification
