Join us on this rewarding journey in the role of

Distribution Operator I:
Assist in the operation and maintenance of the Agency’s treated water distribution systems; and to perform the more routine duties in the area of assigned responsibility.

Distribution Operator II:
Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work in the operation and maintenance of the treated water distribution systems; to monitor and control the treated water distribution system facilities and equipment manually and by using supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) computer consoles to regulate treated water distribution and control water quality; to adjust and maintain pressure reducing stations; and to monitor the water quality of the distribution system.

Required Knowledge of:

Distribution Operator I:

  • Basic hydraulic principles as related to the water industry.
  • Basic mathematics.
  • Fundamental safe work practices.
  • Basic use of modern office.
  • Principles and practices of customer service.

Distribution Operator II:

  • Basic hydraulic principles as related to the water industry.
  • Advanced mathematics.
  • Major components of pumping plants, reservoirs and automatic control valves.
  • Principles, practices, tools and methods related to water distribution and related equipment.
  • Mechanical and electrical components.
  • The operation and limitations of various valves and mathematics directly related to the waterworks industry.
  • Applicable laws, rules and regulations pertaining to cross connection control.
  • Safety rules and codes, including fall protection and confined space procedures.
  • Uses and principles of computerized electronic equipment in the collection, storage and interpretation of operational data related to the monitoring and control of treated water distribution facilities and equipment.
  • Routine operating report generation.
  • Principles and practices of servicing, repairing and calibrating water distribution system equipment.
  • Current technological developments in water distribution and water quality.
  • Current AWWA practices and procedures for water distribution systems.
  • Techniques and complex analyses of water distribution system requirements.
  • Modern office equipment including word processing, database and spreadsheet applications.
  • Principles and practices of customer service.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

Distribution Operator I:

  • Possession and maintenance of a valid California driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Possession of a valid California State Water Resources Control Board Distribution Operators Certificate, Grade 1 with a Grade 2 obtained within two years of appointment.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid California Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certificate from the American Water Works Association (AWWA) within six months of appointment.

Distribution Operator II:

  • Possession and maintenance of a valid California driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Possession of a valid California State Water Resources Control Board Distribution Operators Certificate, Grade 3.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid California Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certificate from the American Water Works Association (AWWA).
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Cross-Connection Control Program Specialist Certificate within six months of appointment.

Distribution Operator I:
Experience:

  • No experience required.

Education:

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

Distribution Operator II:
Experience:

  • Experience consistent with the State of California’s requirements for obtaining and maintaining a Water Distribution Operators Certificate, Grade 2.

Education:

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $4,875.17 - $8,333.69 per month
