Job Title: Independent Contractor Mail Route Driver
Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable, self-motivated, and dependable Independent Contractor Driver to operate a dedicated mail transportation route. In this role, you will be responsible for safely transporting and delivering mail while maintaining route schedules, vehicle accountability, and professional communication standards. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys independent work, values punctuality, and takes pride in providing dependable transportation services.
This is a contract position with consistent scheduled work. Drivers must have reliable transportation to and from the designated postal facility. The route vehicle will remain at the postal location and will be provided for route operations.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate company-provided route vehicle while following all traffic laws and USPS operational requirements
- Transport and deliver mail according to assigned route schedule and deadlines
- Complete pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance concerns
- Load and unload mail containers and materials as required
- Maintain accurate logs for mileage, fuel, route completion, and vehicle condition
- Communicate professionally regarding schedule updates, delays, and route concerns
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain secure handling of mail at all times
- Ensure timely completion of daily route assignments regardless of weather conditions
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned vehicle and work areas
Requirements & Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Ability to pass background requirements if applicable
- Dependable attendance and punctuality
- Ability to lift and move mail containers and perform physical tasks as needed
- Comfortable driving for extended periods and working independently
- Strong communication and time management skills
- Previous delivery, transportation, courier, logistics, postal, or commercial driving experience preferred but not required
- Experience with route driving or USPS contractor work is a plus
