What You'll Do
- Own architecture and delivery of full-stack features from ReactJS/TypeScript UIs to backend services, APIs, and distributed data pipelines, on a platform that enterprise workforce planning teams depend on every day.
- Design and build scalable data processing pipelines (batch and streaming) and distributed backend systems using PostgreSQL, Redis, and Kubernetes.
- Set the technical bar across the team: lead architecture reviews, own code quality and performance standards, drive CI/CD and TDD practices, and stay hands-on through the full software lifecycle including on-call.
- Manage, mentor, and grow a team of engineers. Own hiring, career development, and day-to-day delivery. Partner with Product and Design to scope technical plans and communicate progress, risks, and trade-offs to leadership.
What We Need
- 7 years of hands-on software engineering with a strong full-stack background: modern frontend (React, TypeScript) and backend (Ruby, Python, or Node.js); proven experience designing and operating distributed systems at scale with RESTful APIs, PostgreSQL, and cloud-native architecture (Kubernetes, containerization, microservices).
- 2 years of engineering management or tech lead experience with direct reports, mentorship, and team-level delivery ownership. You lead engineers, you are still writing production code, and you make pragmatic, business-aware decisions in a fast-moving startup environment.
- Solid engineering fundamentals across the full lifecycle: testing (Jest, Cypress, or React Testing Library), code review, CI/CD, TDD, design documentation, and performance monitoring. Deep frontend fluency in component architecture, state management, performance, and accessibility.
