Employment

Direct Hire

If you practice municipal litigation in Colorado, you know this firm.

Hoffmann, Parker, Wilson & Carberry, P.C. has represented Colorado’s cities, counties, and special districts for decades. The firm handles the civil litigation and municipal law matters that shape how government actually works: condemnation and eminent domain disputes, CORA (Colorado Open Records Act) litigation, intergovernmental agreement disputes, and land use. If you have practiced civil litigation in Colorado, especially municipal or local government law, Hoffmann, Parker, Wilson & Carberry, P.C. is a name you already know.

The firm is a specialized boutique with deep expertise in a narrow, consequential niche. The attorneys here work on matters of genuine public significance rather than private commercial disputes. The culture is collaborative, supportive, and direct: you get your work done, you meet your deadlines, and you are an integral part of a real litigation team.

The Role

Hoffmann, Parker, Wilson & Carberry, P.C. is growing its civil litigation workload and adding an Associate Attorney to carry that capacity. This is a full-cycle litigation role: you will carry matters from initial case analysis through resolution, whether that means settlement, a hearing, or trial. You will work under the direction of experienced directors who trust you to drive the work, and you will own whole matters end to end. If you want to build a long-term home in municipal civil litigation and do real, consequential work, this is that opportunity.

What You Will Be Involved With

  • Client intake and case analysis. Assess the merits of each matter, develop the initial case strategy, and advise clients on their position.
  • Legal research. Find the laws, regulations, court decisions, and rules that apply, and turn that research into clear written analysis. Accuracy and speed both matter, since CORA matters run on short deadlines.
  • Brief and motion writing. Draft and argue motions (including summary judgment, motions to dismiss, and motions to strike), file briefs, and explain your position to the court in writing.
  • Discovery practice. Manage the full discovery cycle: interrogatories, document requests, privilege review, CORA document production, and expert witness coordination.
  • Depositions. Conduct and defend depositions under the Colorado Rules of Civil Procedure.
  • Hearings and trial. Appear at pre-trial hearings, status conferences, and evidentiary proceedings, and participate in trial as first or second chair.
  • Settlement negotiation. Most of Hoffmann, Parker, Wilson & Carberry, P.C.’s civil litigation resolves through settlement. You will assess settlement windows, advise government-entity clients on risk-adjusted outcomes, and negotiate with opposing counsel.
  • Case management. Track and meet every court-triggered deadline across multiple active matters, including electronic calendaring for trigger-date management. Missing a deadline is not an option.

Requirements

What You Must Have

  • 5 or more years of civil litigation experience, with real depth across the full lifecycle. The 5-7 year range is the sweet spot, and candidates approaching 10 years will be considered when the motivation for the move is clear.
  • Active Colorado Bar license in good standing. Non-negotiable, and independently verified via Colorado Supreme Court Attorney Registration and OARC before any interview invitation.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills. A writing sample is required and will be reviewed before the interview. It matters.
  • Oral advocacy experience. You have argued in court and are comfortable doing it; familiarity with Colorado case management under C.R.C.P. 16 is expected.
  • A balanced autonomous and collaborative work style. You meet your deadlines, manage your own matters, and do not need to be told what to do next, while contributing as an integral part of the litigation team and its outcomes.
  • The ability to handle full-cycle civil litigation independently, including case strategy, discovery, depositions, motions practice, and courtroom appearances.

Strong Advantages (Not Required)

Municipal or local government law experience (condemnation and eminent domain, CORA, intergovernmental agreements, land use), experience representing government entities, and contract drafting are all meaningful differentiators. Most civil litigators will not have this background. If you do, say so.
