Duties
- Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, including patient history, mental status examinations, and risk assessments to inform diagnosis and treatment strategies.
- Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, ensuring safe administration and monitoring for efficacy and side effects.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care plans, including behavioral health, primary care, and specialty services such as neurology or geriatrics.
- Provide psychotherapy sessions utilizing evidence-based modalities tailored to individual needs, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or eClinicalWorks for accurate documentation, medication reconciliation, and treatment updates.
- Educate patients and families about mental health conditions, medication management, lifestyle modifications, and community resources.
- Participate in clinical research initiatives and quality improvement projects to advance psychiatric practices and patient outcomes.
Qualifications
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing with certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC or equivalent).
- Valid state licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner with authorization for psychiatric services.
- Demonstrated experience in behavioral health settings with exposure to diverse populations including children, geriatrics, assisted living residents, or hospice patients.
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth; telehealth platforms experience is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of psychopharmacology, CPT coding for billing purposes, and familiarity with ICD-10 coding standards.
- Experience managing acute pain or complex cases involving comorbidities like substance use disorders or infectious disease care is advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to triage urgent cases effectively while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Additional skills preferred include experience with neuropsychiatric assessments such as memory care or dementia care; familiarity with hospital medicine or Level I trauma center protocols; and knowledge of Workers’ Compensation law.
