Job Description 

The Saw New Wood Operator  is the engine of our production quality. You’ll be responsible for operating a variety of saws to cut lumber to exact specifications with incredible consistency. From sorting and stacking materials to inspecting equipment, this role is perfect for someone who enjoys a fast-paced, detail-oriented assembly environment.

What You'll Be Doing: 

• Precision Cutting: Operate specific saw types to cut or trim wood to specified dimensions by adjusting methods, blades, speed, and tension.
• Quality Grading: Inspect and measure pallet components to verify accuracy and ensure they meet PLA quality standards.
• Production Goals: Deliver on or exceed daily production requirements to ensure efficient facility operations.
• Equipment Care: Perform daily inspections and general upkeep of saws and hand/power tools to ensure proper operation.
• Material Management: Sort and stack cut materials in designated staging areas and properly dispose of waste.
• Collaboration: Partner with team members and leadership to solve process issues and maintain a collaborative work environment.
• Safety & Compliance: Maintain a clean workspace to reduce accidents and strictly follow all PLA policies and federal/state safety rules.

What we look for:

• Experience: Previous background in pallet repair, woodworking, or construction is preferred.
• Technical Skill: Knowledge of operating a variety of saws, including basic maintenance and safety protocols.
• Precision & Speed: Ability to work with high-powered equipment in a fast-paced environment while meeting daily production deadlines.
• Detail-Oriented: Strong ability to identify defects, imperfections, and specific wood grades in pallet materials.
• Reliability: Consistent and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job.
• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred (any combination of education and experience will be considered).

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and lift for extended periods throughout the shift.
• Stamina: Prolonged periods of standing and walking at your assigned station.
• Strength: Ability to lift, push, and pull 50 pounds or more repeatedly throughout the shift.
• Setting: Duties are performed in a non-climate-controlled environment.
• Safety: Hazards require the consistent use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Excellent vision for inspecting pallet components and operating machinery safely.

Work Environment:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee will primarily work in a warehouse environment. This may include exposure to dust, fluctuating temperatures (hot and cold), and moderate to high noise levels. Steel-toed boots and other personal protective equipment (PPE) will be required.
