What are the responsibilities and job description for the Material Handler - Now Hiring position at PKM STEEL SERVICE INC?
SUMMARY: Perform required movements of all materials throughout the facility in support of production/fabrication functions in compliance with contract/customer specifications and company policies and/or procedures conforming to American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Handle movement and maintain storage of materials, supplies, tools and equipment to and from the work area as required. Set up and operate material handling equipment to ensure production’s material needs are met in a timely manner. Load/unload trucks and railcars as needed. Move fabricated items throughout the facility as needed.
- Proper use and maintenance of material handling equipment including, but not limited to, chains, slings, hooks, couplers, gantry cranes, overhead bridged cranes, fork lifts and magnetic hoists.
- Verify accuracy of work per AISC, customer and internal quality control standards, guidelines and restrictions.
- Work from written/verbal instructions, blueprints, patterns, orders, lists, and scheduling practices.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance including, but not limited to, lubricating, cleaning and making minor adjustments and replacement of filters. Assist as required in upkeep of production facility and break areas.
- Responsible for completing all work in a safe, timely, cost efficient and quality manner.
- Accurately complete all required documentation including, but not limited to, time cards, maintenance request forms, safety forms and personnel forms.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Accurate knowledge of AISC standards and procedures relative to material identification, coding, storage, handling and movement.
- Knowledge of and skill in identifying a variety of material compositions, configurations, sizes, and weights under variable conditions including, but not limited to, temperature, humidity and ventilation.
- Working knowledge of DOT regulations as they apply to sizes/weights of loads allowable on transport vehicles.
- Knowledge of and skill in the operation and maintenance of material handling equipment, blasting equipment and all accessory tools/equipment used in the material handling process.
- Ability to demonstrate appropriate skill levels in the operation of accessory tools including pneumatic hand tools, standard hand tools and measuring equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow blueprints, directions, instructions and other forms of production and shipment communications.
- Ability to work with other areas and departments to coordinate work flow and achieve optimum output.
- Demonstrates high degree of professional behavior, appearance, work ethic, attention to detail, honesty and reliability.
- Demonstrates ability to manage stress constructively and maintain professional, positive, even temperament during periods of frustration, ambiguity and change. Demonstrable skills in interpersonal communication and conflict management.
