Position Description
POSITION TITLE: Adult Basic Education (ABE) Teacher
FLSA: Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold or be eligible for Virginia teacher license. Desired experience teaching adults. Desired qualifications include TABE certification, Goal Setting certification and BEST Plus certification.
REPORTS TO: Principal and/or other Supervisor
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Part-time (9 hrs./wk.); 1:00 - 4:00 PM Mon - Wed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Participate in curriculum review and design.
- Instruct individuals in the Pittsylvania County Jail.
- Conduct TABE and other needs assessments.
- Develop educational plans of action for students.
- Monitor and remediate as necessary.
- Maintain student records.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Submit monthly reports.
- Adhere to jail protocol for visitors/teachers
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
- Serve on committees as assigned.
- Remain current on instructional practices in education (e.g. instructional technology)
- Perform other duties as assigned.
