POSITION TITLE
Adjunct Teacher, High School Musical Theatre
Job Description Summary
The ideal candidate is an experienced music director, teacher and accompanist. This position involves teaching several levels of music theory, as well as providing musical direction and piano accompaniment for several annual musical projects. Required skills include a strong ability to play a variety of music styles as well as an effective pedagogy for music theory for students ranging in grades 9-12.
The position will be 15 hours a week (12:10 - 3:10 PM, M-F) and does not include health care benefits.

Essential Functions
- Prepare and teach stimulating classes in music theory to students aged 13-18
- Prepare the vocals for 2-3 annual student productions working as part of a production team alongside the director and choreographer
- Nurture each student to maximize their potential as musical theater artists
- Utilize differentiated instruction to assess and support all students according to their accommodations and learning styles
- Ensuring a culture of rigor and discipline in the classroom
- Practice a sensitive handling of students' emotional needs, giving constructive criticism, encouragement and confidence
- Create a welcoming, healthy and safe learning environment for all students to grow and learn by setting class-based rules and boundaries that are centered on mutual respect and understanding of our core values
- Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school
- Regularly communicate with students, parents and other CAPA theater faculty to share artistic progress, encourage positive behavior, and resolve behavioral and artistic issues.
- Maintain student attendance records

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Practicing musical director and accompanist with proven performance history
- Teaching experience with diverse audiences - high school, studio, and /or community settings
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Collaborative and creative team player
- Collaborative work with community arts organizations
- Proficiency in notation software a plus
