Job Summary

The ACAA's Heavy Equipment Mechanic will report to the F Fleet Manager, and is responsible for the preventative maintenance and repair of all heavy equipment, such as earth moving and snow removal equipment, ordering parts, diagnostic checks and fluid testing.

Here Is How The Heavy Equipment Mechanic Will Help

  • Develop or participate in the job safety analysis procedures
  • Determine repairs required by testing and use of diagnostic equipment
  • Repair equipment and replace defective parts within an allotted time
  • Perform engine tune-ups
  • Identify unsafe conditions and properly report or take corrective measures as appropriate
  • Maintain a large, complex and diversified fleet of heavy equipment to ACAA standards
  • Perform continuous analysis to improve operation, decrease turnaround times and streamline work processes
  • Attend specialized training and familiarization workshops dealing with innovations in heavy equipment operations, emission standards, repairs, and maintenance
  • Participate in daily safety tool box meetings
  • Maintain a clean work environment
  • Maintain good working relations with management and co-workers, representing the ACAA in a professional manner at all times
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned or required

Qualifications

Requirements to apply for role of Heavy Equipment Mechanic are:

  • High School diploma or GED; one year certificate from college or technical school.
  • Three years' experience working in the heavy equipment repair field using diagnostic equipment.
  • Possession of a Pennsylvania CDL license, Class "A" or "B." License must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an ACAA Security identification badge.
  • Must provide his/her own personal protective footwear (Composite toe safety shoes).
  • Adhere to all ACAA policies and procedures, including guidelines set forth by the Dress Code and Personal Protective Equipment policy.
  • Must have experience using diagnostic equipment.
  • Employee is required to provide hand tools necessary for the trade.

We also expect that candidates will demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities in most cases:

  • Ability to do requisitions and order parts in accordance with all A.C.A.A. contracts.
  • Proficient and experienced in the repair and maintenance of the following:
  • 1. Engines -- Diesel and Gasoline
  • Automatic transmissions.
  • Front ends and alignments
  • Manual transmissions and differentials
  • Mechanical and Pneumatic Brakes
  • Electrical system.
  • Heating and air-conditioning systems.
  • Hydraulic oil system.
  • Body work and minor painting.
  • Extensive knowledge in welding, burning and brazing.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and techniques of safety precautions and injury prevention programs.
  • Knowledge of current emission standards with the ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair any issues.
  • Knowledge of basic computer programs.
  • Ability to wear and work comfortably using a respirator.
  • Ability to do all paperwork related to the job.
  • Ability to work all shifts scheduled or assigned in a 24/7 operation.

**PHYSICAL DEMANDS**

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and ccasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.

**CONDITIONS**

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, and vibration. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud. Employee may be assigned to additional shifts, which encompass a twenty-four hour day, seven day per week operation, including holidays. Subject to remain on duty beyond assigned working hours to provide assistance during emergency situations, peak periods or extenuating circumstances.

**MEDICAL EXAMINATION**

Employment is contingent upon the results of a post-offer (initial employment or promotion) physical examination and respirator medical clearance performed by the Authority's examining physician. Hearing ability must meet the standards / levels, as required by the Department of Transportation guidelines. Continued employment may be subject to respirator fit testing conducted with or without advanced notice and without individualized suspicion.

**DRUG TESTING**

Employment is contingent upon the results of a post-offer (initial employment or promotion) drug screening. Continued employment may be subject to drug and alcohol testing conducted without advance notice and without individualized suspicion.

**PRE-EMPLOYMENT BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION**

Ability to successfully pass a thorough investigation consisting of a criminal history check (including but not limited to the requirements of TSR/CFR 1542.209 and 1542.3), verification of prior employment and performance, reference and credentials checks, and in some cases credit history.
