PITTSBURG UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT RESOURCE SPECIALIST (Special Education) ADMINISTRATIVE RELATIONSHIPS: Under the immediate supervision of the building principal. With general overall supervision provided by the Director of Pupil Personnel Services. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Appropriate teaching credential. 2. Three or more years full-time teaching experience 3. Completed or enrolled in an advance preparation program. 4. Possession of general teaching competencies. 5. Possession of detailed working knowledge of the various exceptionalities. 6. Skill in instructional planning. 7. Consultation and coordinating skills. 8. Working knowledge and skill in using educational evaluation strategies. 9. Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1, Staff function on S.A.T. (a) Assists in identifying the child’s needs through appraisals. (b) Calls upon Designated Instructional Personnel, and/or the school psychologist, to assist in the appraisal process. (c) Contacts the parents or guardian to obtain consent for assessments to be made, reviews program plans and secures permission for placement to be made in an instructional component. (d) Coordinates the writing of the pupil’s instructional plan. (e) Participates with School Appraisal Team in approval of instructional plans developed for each child. (f) Provides instruction and/or service as required in the approved instructional plan. (g) Monitors implementation of the plan. (h) Supervises the Resource Specialist aide. Provide consultant services, resource information, and material regarding individuals with exceptional needs to regular staff members and to parents and guardians. 3. Coordinate with Program Specialists in establishing, maintaining, and coordinating special education services.. 4. Evaluate pupil progress on a regular basis and with the School Appraisal Team revise individual instructional plans as appropriate. 5. Coordinate the services provided by Designated Instruction. 6. Provide techniques for both preventing the development of negative attitudes and behaviors toward children in the Resource Specialist Program. 7. Provide techniques for dealing with negative attitudes and behaviors after they become manifest. 8. Hold regular meetings with the parents of individual children. (a) Individual meetings. (b) Voluntary group meetings. (1.) To discuss concerns about their child’s growth and development with other parents who have similar concerns. (2.) To present topics to general interest to the parents. 9. Provide for vocational career guidance of exceptional students. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work Year: Teachers regular work year.
