The Department of Health, Human Performance, and Recreation (HHPR) at Pittsburg State University is accepting applications for a non-tenure-track (9-month) Assistant Instructional Professor position. Applicants must possess a master’s degree in a field related to HHPR and have public or commercial recreation industry experience. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching, as well as the ability and desire to serve the Pitt State and surrounding community.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate courses, including Community and Worksite Wellness, Camping and Outdoor Recreation, Facility Design and Operations, Administration, and other courses related to the B.S. in Recreation degree
- Mentor students and support their academic and professional growth
- Actively engage in professional organizations
- Contribute service to the college and community
- Foster student success and promote a positive learning environment
Education and Experience
Required Education and Experience – Time of Hire
- Master’s Degree in Recreation and Sport Management or closely related field
- Professional Experience in public or commercial recreation industry
Candidate's must hold a master's degree in Recreation and Sport Management discipline or related field. This degree requirement ensures candidates possess the advanced theoretical knowledge, highly specialized methodologies, and critical problem-solving skills fundamental to this work. These competencies are typically developed and rigorously validated only through the comprehensive curriculum and intensive experiential experience inherent in a formal degree program.
Preferred Education and Experience –
- Ph.D./Ed.D. (in progress) in Recreation and Sport Management or closely related field
- Experience teaching in Higher Education
