The Math Teacher will provide rigorous, standards-aligned instruction in mathematics while fostering a supportive and engaging classroom environment. The ideal candidate will be committed to strengthening conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and real-world application of mathematical concepts to ensure measurable academic growth for all students.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, standards-based instruction aligned to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for Mathematics
- Emphasize conceptual understanding, mathematical discourse, and problem-solving strategies
- Implement evidence-based instructional strategies, including AVID WICOR strategies, activating strategies, distributed summarizing, and explicit vocabulary instruction
- Use formative assessment data and common assessments to inform instruction and drive student growth
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
- Foster a structured, positive classroom environment that promotes high expectations and mutual respect
- Participate actively in Professional Learning Teams (PLTs) to analyze data, plan instruction, and refine practices
- Support intervention efforts, including the ReCharge block, to ensure measurable progress for every student
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues
- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Education, or related field
- Valid North Carolina teaching license (or eligibility for licensure) in Mathematics
- Strong knowledge of secondary math content and instructional best practices
- Commitment to continuous professional growth
- Ability to build positive relationships with students and families
- Experience teaching high school mathematics (Algebra I, Geometry, Math II/III, or advanced courses)
- Experience increasing student proficiency and closing achievement gaps
- Knowledge of AVID instructional strategies and data-driven instruction
- Experience integrating technology to enhance student learning
