What are the responsibilities and job description for the Airport Facilities Technician - On-Call position at Pitkin County?

Maintains Airport buildings and grounds to ensure the safety and comfort of Airport staff and visitors. Assists Airport staff and the public as needed.
- This position is on-call and hours will vary based on weather.

- Inspects equipment to ensure proper and safe functioning; maintains heavy equipment and changes oil.
- Conducts inspections of facilities to determine maintenance needs; maintains and repairs lights, signs, fencing, gates, and roofing; completes plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and internal equipment maintenance and repair work.
- Responds to Airport emergencies and accidents.
- Completes roadwork to keep outside road free of ruts and graded; removes rocks from runways.
- Assists Airport visitors.
- Supports the relationship between Pitkin County government and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and County staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
This position follows a sequence. Please note that all levels require NIMS/ICS Certifications (100, 200, NIMS 700,800) within 6 months of hire, and first aid and CPR certification within six months of hire:
- Level I:
- Up to 1 year of facility maintenance experience.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Class B Colorado Commercial Driver’s License preferred but not required.
- Safety policies, procedures, and practices for basic construction industry standards.
- Inventory management methods and practices.
- Personal protective equipment and proper use.
- Equipment troubleshooting methods.
- General maintenance practice and procedures.
- Organizing and prioritizing work to meet deadlines and accomplish tasks.

- Handling multiple tasks simultaneously, under pressure, and in emergency and stressful situations.
- Microsoft Office Products and Google Suite.
- Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Operating tools and equipment safely.
- Work is performed in a standard office environment, with some exposure to dangerous tools, equipment, machinery, inclement weather conditions, and fumes.
