A hostess is responsible for greeting guests, managing reservations and seating, and ensuring a positive first impression in a restaurant or hospitality setting.
Key Responsibilities: A hostess serves as the first point of contact for guests, creating a welcoming atmosphere and supporting smooth restaurant operations. Core duties include:
- Greeting and welcoming guests with warmth and professionalism to set the tone for their dining experience.
- Managing reservations and waitlists, ensuring guests are seated efficiently and fairly, and providing estimated wait times.
- Seating guests at tables or waiting areas, considering preferences and table rotation to balance server workloads.
- Answering phone calls and guest inquiries regarding menu items, hours, and special requests.
- Supporting front-of-house staff by assisting with bussing, refilling drinks, or light housekeeping tasks such as cleaning menus and tables.
- Handling guest complaints calmly and professionally to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Providing menu information and assisting new staff in understanding service procedures, especially in high -end establishments.
