The CCTV Technician is responsible for operating specialized camera equipment to visually inspect and record the condition of underground wastewater and stormwater piping systems. This position plays a critical role in identifying defects, blockages, and structural issues necessary for maintenance planning, capital improvement projects, and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- CCTV Inspection:
- Operate and maintain sophisticated CCTV inspection equipment, including mainline and lateral launch cameras, to perform detailed interior inspections of pipes, manholes, and related structures.
- Set up and retrieve camera equipment from manholes and access points, ensuring proper safety procedures are followed at all times.
- Maneuver the camera through the pipe, adjusting speed and focus to capture clear and comprehensive video documentation.
- Data Recording & Reporting:
- Accurately measure and document the location, type, and severity of pipe defects (e.g., cracks, infiltration, root intrusion, joint displacement) using industry-standard coding (e.g., NASSCO PACP, MACP, LACP).
- Maintain detailed electronic logs, including pipe segment data, inspection date, weather conditions, and equipment used.
- Generate clear and concise inspection reports, including video footage, digital photos, and written summaries, for engineers and maintenance crews.
- Equipment Maintenance:
- Perform routine cleaning, calibration, and preventative maintenance on CCTV equipment, vehicle, and related tools.
- Troubleshoot minor equipment malfunctions in the field.
- Ensure the inspection vehicle is fully stocked and organized.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, including confined space entry procedures, traffic control, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Follow all municipal, state, and federal regulations regarding wastewater systems.
- Coordination:
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and field crews regarding project progress, scheduling, and identified critical defects.
- Travel in NC/SC up to 35%
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience operating CCTV equipment for sewer inspection.
- Certification: Current certification in NASSCO PACP (Pipe Assessment Certification Program) is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in using CCTV inspection software (e.g., SewerAI/Pioneer).
- Strong understanding of gravity sewer systems and common structural/operational defects.
- Familiarity with interpreting engineering plans and GIS data.
- Other:
- Valid NC Driver's License.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accurate data collection.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift and carry heavy equipment (up to 50 pounds).
- Comfortable working around and entering confined spaces (manholes) following strict safety protocols.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
