At Piper, we're seeking highly motivated and detail-oriented individuals to join our team as an entry level Field Engineer to support installation, testing, and troubleshooting of onboard and trackside equipment. This role is hands-on and ideal for recent engineering graduates who want to gain experience with sensors, electronics, and rail systems. You will learn technical documentation skills, testing support and safety and compliance. But that is not all you will receive mentorship from experienced professionals in the field. The opportunity to contribute to real world projects with meaningful impact and various internal testing frameworks.
You will be required to work a schedule of Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm on site in our Everett office in Boston. We are offering $25.00 per hour; this position is a temp to hire full-time position.

Candidate Requirements
- Currently pursuing an Associate or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering or a related field.
- Basic understanding of DC circuits, sensors, and wiring.
- Comfortable using hand tools and measuring instruments.
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn from senior staff.
- S. work authorization required; must be able to access MBTA facilities.
- Assist with installation of onboard equipment (sensors, antennas, controllers, cables, brackets).
- Support basic electrical work: cable routing, termination, labeling, and continuity checks.
- Perform equipment power-up, device connectivity checks, and simple field tests.
- Document completed work, take photos, update checklists, and track installation progress.
- Help troubleshoot common hardware and wiring issues with guidance from senior staff.
- Follow all client and company safety procedures while working in rail environments.
- Coordinate daily activities with senior field engineers, installers, and client personnel.
- Support the installation of carborne hardware such as sensors, processors, antennas, and harnesses on Type 7, 8, and 9 light-rail vehicles.
- Help route and secure cables, apply labels, and prepare installation kits.
- Observe and assist technicians in mechanical mounting and electrical terminations.
- Update installation checklists and as-built diagrams.
- Photograph and catalog completed assemblies.
- Assist in tracking materials, tools, and inventory used per vehicle.
- Assist with continuity and functional checks using multimeters or test jigs.
- Record test data under the supervision of qualified technicians or engineers.
- Follow all client yard safety rules and PPE requirements.
- Attend daily toolbox talks and hazard briefings.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
- Creating installation plans for Piper products on clients' vehicles and structures.
- Creating and managing orders with manufacturers to fabricate Piper products successfully.
- Having foresight in creating designs that are adaptable and scalable, accommodating potential modifications without significant rework.
