System Administrator - Security Monitoring

Piper Companies is seeking a Systems Administrator to support a highly specialized security monitoring team within the government technology sector. The Systems Administrator role is ideal for an engineer experienced in CentOS, automation, Python scripting, and maintaining custom-built environments that support detection engineering and SOC operations. The Systems Administrator role is a long term contract opportunity.

Responsibilities of the Systems Administrator:

• Administer, maintain, and support CentOS‑based systems within a secure engineering and monitoring environment.
• Develop and enhance automation using Python and related scripting tools.
• Support custom tooling used by security engineering and analyst teams, including server and endpoint detection workflows.
• Manage configurations, updates, and troubleshooting for servers and services supporting the team’s custom lab environment.
• Assist with operational improvements, monitoring enhancements, and infrastructure reliability.
• Work within a dynamic customer environment requiring adaptability and strong problem‑solving abilities.
  
  

Requirements of the Systems Administrator:

• Strong hands‑on experience administering CentOS or similar Linux distributions.
• Proficiency with Python scripting and automation frameworks.
• Experience supporting custom tooling, SOC environments, or detection engineering workflows is a plus.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues across servers, endpoints, and networked systems.
  
  

Compensation for the Systems Administrator:

• $130,000 - $155,000
• Full Comprehensive Benefits: Health, Vision, Dental, PTO, Paid Holiday and Sick Leave if Required by Law.
