Database Engineer - Azure SME

Piper Companies is seeking a highly skilled Database Engineer to join the corporate division of a leading healthcare organization in Columbia, MD. This hybrid position (2 days onsite per week) offers the opportunity to design and optimize enterprise-level database solutions that support critical business operations.

This expert-level role focuses on database architecture, security, and ETL development within a complex healthcare environment. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in Azure database services, including Azure SQL Database, Cosmos DB, and related cloud-native tools, along with strong skills in performance tuning, compliance, migration strategies, and automation using Azure DevOps.

Responsibilities of the Database Engineer Include:

• Design and implement scalable, secure database solutions for enterprise applications.
• Develop and optimize ETL processes to support BI and data warehousing initiatives.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align database strategies with business objectives.
• Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues, conducting root cause analysis.
• Define and enforce data security and compliance standards (HIPAA).
• Mentor DBA team members and contribute to successful project delivery.
• Maintain documentation and engage in ongoing professional development.
  
  

Qualifications of the Database Engineer Include:

• 7 years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server (2016–2019).
• Recognized Microsoft/Azure subject-matter expert.
• Hands-on experience with Azure SQL, data protection tools (CommVault, Rubrik, Veeam), and HIPAA-compliant environments.
• Familiarity with VMware, Active Directory, and enterprise storage (Cisco, NetApp, Pure Storage).
• Strong skills in T-SQL, PowerShell, and SSIS/DTS.
• Experience with high availability solutions (AlwaysOn, replication).
• Proficiency in Power BI and Windows Server administration.
• Strong analytical, communication, and customer service skills.
• Knowledge of Agile, DevOps, and ITIL processes.
• Understanding of RDBMS constructs and OS authentication for access provisioning.
  
  

Compensation of the Database Engineer Includes:

• Salary Range: $135,000.00 - $145,000.00 annually, commensurate with experience.
