As we grow the next era of programmable IP infrastructure, we are expanding our core engineering team and are now looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to take ownership of critical services that keep the Story protocol running.About The RoleWe are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer who can own and maintain Story’s backend systems end to end, including the Story API, indexing pipelines, workflow orchestration services, and the supporting cloud infrastructure behind them.This role sits at the intersection of backend engineering and infrastructure. You will primarily work on Story’s backend services in Go, but will also collaborate closely with infrastructure on deployments, cloud migrations, and system reliability. This is a high-impact role that will immediately take on meaningful responsibilities across the Story platform.You will join a small, highly technical team where you will have autonomy, significant ownership, and the opportunity to influence the architecture of Story’s backend as we scale.What You'll Do: Maintain and extend the Story API, indexing systems, and backend servicesWrite high-quality Go code and improve the performance and reliability of distributed servicesSupport day-to-day infrastructure needs, including deployments, monitoring, and cloud operationsContribute to the GCP to AWS migration and help stand up self-hosted TemporalDebug issues across the stack and own services from design through deploymentCollaborate with backend, infra, and protocol engineers on architecture, reviews, and best practicesTake on maintenance and optimization work left by recent team transitions and help re-establish backend coverage for StoryDesign and implement new backend systems and services from the ground up, shaping core platform capabilities as Story evolvesWho You Are: 5 to 8 years of software engineering experience, with strong backend focusProficiency with Go (Golang) in production environmentsStrong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, microservices, and concurrencyHands-on experience with AWS or other major cloud providersExperience deploying, maintaining, and debugging production servicesAbility to operate in a fast-moving, high-ownership startup environmentExcellent communication and collaboration skillsBased in the Bay Area and comfortable with a hybrid work modelNice To Have: Experience with infrastructure tools such as Terraform, Kubernetes, or CI/CDFamiliarity with Temporal, workflow systems, or distributed task orchestrationExperience self-hosting cloud or open-source infrastructure componentsBackground with blockchain or decentralized systems (not required)Contributions to open-source projectsFamiliarity with Rust or TypeScript microservicesWe may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses.
