All substitute teachers must first be registered and approved through the Butte County Office of Education (BCOE) Substitute Teacher Clearinghouse before completing a Pioneer Union Elementary School District application.
Step 1: Register with BCOE
Interested applicants must begin by completing the BCOE Substitute Interest Form:

Once submitted, a BCOE Credential Analyst will contact you via email with next steps for fingerprinting, credential verification, and onboarding.
Step 2: Provide the Following Required Documents to BCOE
Valid California Teaching Credential or Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit
Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution
Verification of Basic Skills Requirement (CBEST or approved equivalent)
Fingerprint clearance (Live Scan) as required by Education Code §44830.1
Negative TB test or TB risk assessment (within the past 4 years) per Education Code §49406
Proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. (I-9 documentation)
Resume and letters of recommendation
Step 3: Apply with Pioneer Union Elementary School District
After your name appears on the BCOE Substitute Clearinghouse list, complete the Pioneer Union Elementary School District Substitute Teacher Application on EdJoin.
Applicants not listed on the BCOE Clearinghouse cannot be considered for employment.
