What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transmissions Technician III-VI position at Pioneer Telephone Cooperative, Inc.?
Under the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, this position is considered safety sensitive. Safety-sensitive is defined as a job that includes operation of a motor vehicle, equipment, machinery, or power tools.
General Summary:
The primary purpose of this position is to build, install, maintain, commission, and troubleshoot all transporting equipment and circuits.
Residence Requirements: Transmission Techs are generally required to reside within 30 minutes of the boundaries of one of the exchanges covered by the local business office in which they work. Any exception to this requirement would require Executive Management approval.
For this position, a candidate must live within one of the areas listed below.
Area of Responsibility
The position is responsible for servicing, managing, and residing within the assigned territory covering Northwestern Oklahoma. The territory boundaries include:
- Northbound: From Seiling north on Highway 281 to Alva
- Westbound: From Alva west on Highway 64 to Buffalo
- Southbound: From Buffalo south on Highway 283 to Arnett
- Eastbound: From Arnett east on Highway 60 back to Seiling
This role also requires flexibility and willingness to travel outside of the assigned coverage area as needed.
Essential Job Functions:
- Ensures functionality of Inside Plant transmission equipment by performing acceptance tests as appropriate and completing appropriate forms.
- Receives and clears trouble tickets in a timely manner and assists other departmental personnel with troubleshooting as needed.
- Installs, maintains, commissions, and troubleshoots all transport equipment and special service circuits and associated equipment; to include Ethernet, DSL, PON, TDM, SONET, and DWDM.
- Completes service requests by assigned due dates.
- Completes appropriate reports and records and forwards information to appropriate departments.
- Promotes teamwork and a positive attitude.
- Responds to after hour emergency call out via rotating on call schedule within 30 minutes.
- Commits to performing job tasks in a manner that ensures a safe work environment.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must maintain a good driving record and a valid driver license.
- Must meet the attached Certification and Training requirements of Transmissions Technician III.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: (Level III = Basic)
- Basic skill in installing, repairing, troubleshooting and maintaining inside plant, special service and transmission equipment requiring analytical thinking and problem solving.
- Knowledge of basic telecommunications, networking and fundamentals.
- Skill in using mechanical and electrical power tools.
- Ability to evaluate, test, and repair equipment.
- Knowledge of company products/services, policies and procedures.

Physical Requirements:
- Sitting or standing for extended periods, walking, finger dexterity, feeling, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity including close vision.
- Occasionally may be required to lift up to 50lbs.
- May be required occasionally to stoop, kneel or bend.
- Ability to drive for extended periods.
- Must be able to distinguish colors.
- Must be able to climb, stand on a ladder, crawl in attics and be in confined spaces for extended periods.
- Ability to work outside in all types of weather.

Transmissions Technician III:
- 0 to 1 year of experience in one or more of the following:
- AC/DC Power & Installation
- Telecom Power & Installation Battery/Cabling/ Grounding
- Basic Electronics
- Adtran, Calix and Vaonet Overview
- Multiservice Transport Platform Advanced Topics and Data over DWDM
- Must acquire Wireshark Training within 18 months.
- Must acquire SSCA SIP certification within 18 months and maintain certification until a higher certification is acquired.
Transmissions Technician IV:
- 2 years related experience and/or training
- SIP Trunking
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in a network service provider environment.
- Voice/Wireshark Training
- Calix E7 E7 Fiber Specialist certifications and maintain said certification.
- CompTIA Network or Equivalent; Certification and maintain said certification.
Transmissions Technician V:
- 3 years related experience and/or training
- Must acquire or possess a current Cisco CCENT or Equivalent
- Must acquire or possess a current MEF-CECP certification and maintain said certification
Transmission Technician VI:
- 4 years related experience and/or training
- Must acquire or possess a current Second Cisco CCNA or Equivalent
- Must acquire or possess a current CCNP or Equivalent) certification and maintain said certification until a higher certification is acquired.1

Salary : $49,895 - $90,665
