Metrologist / Quality Laboratory Technician
We are a plastic injection molding company seeking a detail-oriented Metrologist / Quality Laboratory Technician to join our Quality team. This role is responsible for ensuring the highest level of product quality by performing dimensional inspections, validating production samples, and supporting manufacturing through accurate measurement and quality analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform dimensional inspections of production and sample parts to ensure compliance with customer specifications and engineering drawings.
- Conduct process capability studies, First Article Inspections (FAI), Gage R&R studies, and other customer-required quality validations.
- Review engineering prints and apply GD&T principles to inspection activities.
- Operate and maintain quality inspection equipment, including CMMs, SmartScope vision systems, calipers, gage blocks, pin gages, and other precision measuring instruments.
- Provide measurement data and technical support to manufacturing personnel to ensure products meet inspection and quality requirements.
- Assist In-Process Inspectors with measurement-related issues and troubleshooting.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing inspection data and maintaining accurate quality documentation.
Qualifications
- Quality-related coursework and/or ASQ Certified Mechanical Inspector (CMI) certification preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a quality, metrology, or inspection environment.
- Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Experience performing capability studies, Gage R&R, and First Article Inspections.
- Proficiency with CMMs, SmartScope systems, and standard inspection tools.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, mathematical skills, and a basic understanding of statistical analysis.
- Experience in the medical device, automotive, or industrial manufacturing industries is preferred.
