This role will perform a variety of tasks associated with Durable Medical Equipment (DME), casting, splinting, and clinic as directed by a physician, assist with the efficient operation of the Pinnacle Orthopaedics DME Program, cast room, and clinic flow, fit and educate patients regarding proper care and use of braces, slings, cryo-therapy units, and proper cast/splint care. Essential job duties include (but not limited to):

  • Under the direct supervision and orders of the physicians, provide proper fitting and education of orthopaedic DME products for patients and use the Breg Vision app on an iPad to facilitate dispensation.
  • Properly fit and provide education to patients on the application, use, care, and expected outcome for DME products as indicated by the prescribing physician’s instructions and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Consults with physicians regarding patient needs including informing physicians of changes/modifications or availability.
  • Educate patients on the amount that is billed to insurance and the DME deposit is collected on the day of service.
  • Perform patient scheduling for DME product pick-up, fitting, education, and order processing.
  • Under the direct supervision and orders of the physicians, provide proper casting and splinting to patients along with proper education of cast and splint care.
  • Document in patients chart regarding DME, casting, and splinting.
  • Provides patient care support to licensed providers and serves as liaison between patient and healthcare provider.
  • Ensure proper reports, records, policies, and procedures are maintained relative to the performance of required daily activities.
  • Provide the highest level of customer service to patients and their family members, physicians, clinic management, and all other employees.
  • Comply with all elements of HIPAA law, Medicare, Medicaid, and other required programs.
  • Participate in any additional training or in-services required by the practice.
  • Provides clinical coverage as needed

Requirements

  • Two or more years of current work experience in a hospital, clinic or medial office working directly with orthopaedic patients is required.
  • The ability to fit, adjust and/or modify a wide range of DME products used in all specialties of orthopaedic practice is required.
  • The ability to apply, adjust and/or modify a wide range of casts and splints used in all specialties of orthopaedic practice is preferred.
  • Clinical skills and expertise in the treatment of patients with orthopaedic conditions or injuries is required.
  • Knowledge of insurance companies with understanding of authorization, verification of benefits, co-pays, and co-insurance is required.
  • The ability to travel between multiple clinic locations as needed.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills are required.

Skills / Abilities

  • Medical knowledge in anatomy and medical terminology.
  • Working knowledge of business and communications software (e.g., Word, Excel, and other related programs), and general business equipment (e.g., facsimile, copier, printer, scanner, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of EMR systems.
  • Ability to keep a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in all written and oral communications, including email.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities, tasks, and project management.
  • Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Good judgment and decision making.
  • Strong sense of discretion and professionalism.

Physical Demands

  • Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Involves standing, walking, climbing, and kneeling.
  • Involves harsh auditory environment.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risk, which require following basic safety precautions.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $1.00 per hour
