Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Security Department Manager to lead and oversee all aspects of security operations within our organization.
The Security Department Manager leads the Access Control and CCTV division within a security systems integration company, overseeing design, installation, service, and support of client-facing electronic security solutions.
This pivotal role manages the department's Project Managers, Technicians, Engineers and project delivery standards, ensuring systems are deployed and maintained to manufacturer specifications, industry codes, and client expectations.
The Department Manager partners closely with Sales, Project Management, Estimating and Service teams to ensure technical accuracy from proposal through commissioning and ongoing support.
Responsibilities
- · Lead and manage the Access Control and CCTV department, including installation technicians, service technicians, and system designers/engineers.
- Oversee system design reviews, ensuring proposed and installed solutions (access control, video surveillance/CCTV, intrusion, and related integrations) meet client requirements, codes, and manufacturer standards.
- Manage technical quality across new installations, upgrades, and service calls, including final inspections and commissioning sign-off.
- Serve as the senior technical escalation point for complex access control and CCTV issues, both pre-sale and post-installation.
- Partner with Sales and Estimating to review scopes of work, bill of materials, and system architecture on active opportunities.
- Coordinate with Project Managers on scheduling, staffing, and resource allocation across concurrent projects.
- Maintain vendor/manufacturer relationships and certifications (e.g., access control platforms, VMS/CCTV manufacturers) required to support client systems.
- Develop and enforce standard operating procedures, installation standards, and documentation practices for the department.
- Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate department staff; identify skill gaps and coordinate manufacturer or industry training/certifications.
- Monitor department budget, labor hours, and profitability on assigned projects and service work.
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., NFPA, local AHJ requirements, data privacy considerations for video systems).
- Support after-hours or emergency escalation for critical client system outages as needed.
- Track and report on department KPIs to senior leadership.
Skills
- 7 years of experience in the design, installation, or service of commercial access control and CCTV/video surveillance systems.
- 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role managing technicians or engineers.
- Strong working knowledge of major access control platforms (e.g., Avigilon Alta, Brivo, Verkada, and other systems) and CCTV/VMS platforms (e.g., Milestone, Genetec, Avigilon, Exacq).
- Understanding of networking fundamentals as they apply to IP-based security systems (VLANs, PoE, bandwidth/storage planning).
- Familiarity with low-voltage codes, NFPA standards, and local AHJ permitting/inspection processes.
- Manufacturer certifications in access control and/or CCTV platforms preferred. · Strong leadership, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interface directly with clients on technical matters.
- Proficiency with project management, ticketing, or CRM software. · Valid driver's license and ability to travel to client sites as needed.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
