DRAFTSPERSON
Department: Digital Fabrication
Reports To: VP of Digital Fabrication
Location: Compton, California
Reporting to the Digital Fabrication Manager, the Draftsperson will work with the Digital Fabrication Manager, Fabrication Manager Director, and Project Managers as the conduit between Design and Fabrication by producing effective technical drawings for in-shop fabrication. The Draftsperson will also produce files for the operation of the CNC machine and work to mentor and help guide all Freelance Associate Draftspersons. The Draftsperson will work under the guidance and advisement of the Drafting Manager and Director of Fabrication.
- Assist Digital Fabrication Manager and work in tandem with Director of Fabrication, Project Managers, and Design team throughout all awarded projects
- Attend weekly departmental workflow meetings
- Attend project Pass-Off and Kick-Off meetings with senior staff members
- Schedule fabrication meetings with Director of Fabrication, Drafting Manager, Fabrication Manager, and Project Manager for all assigned projects
- Produce effective technical decks for in-shop and vendor fabrication
- Maintain and organize shared files according to departmental guidelines
- Deliver shop drawings, and all other specific materials within pre-established timelines
- Support Project and Department Leads including Carpentry, Paint, Metal, and LX in the fabrication process throughout the entire build timeline
- Produce files for the operation of the CNC machine
- Assist in the creation of ground plans and install guidelines as needed
- Work within build list and production schedule as defined by the client and Pink Sparrow leadership
- Support Digital Fabrication Manager in mentorship and guidance of all Associate Freelance Draftsman in departmental guidelines and objectives
- Support overall departmental objectives as set by Drafting Manager and Leadership Team
- Support overall business goals, as set by the company
- Source materials, finishes, and hardware as defined by the scope of an awarded project
- Assist in any print production needs as outlined within the scope of an awarded project
- Assist in creating and updating standardized templates for internal and external use
- Participate and contribute to departmental and company culture objectives
Required:
- Working knowledge of AutoCad, SketchUp, Rhino 3D, and Adobe Creative Suite
- Working experience with various materials and fabrication techniques (wood, metal/welding, hardware, plastics, laminates, fabrics/textiles)
- Professional experience working in both 3D and 2D drawings
- Ability to think creatively and quickly about a variety of challenges within the design and fabrication scope
- Experience creating vector drawings consistent w/ CNC machine operation
- Shop drawing experience (furniture, scenic fab, theater, etc.)
- Must be able to provide written reports and feedback
- Must be organized, detail oriented, and team driven
- Must be flexible and adaptable to constant change
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
