Pinellas Suncoast Fire & Rescue District is seeking a professional, motivated Fire Inspector to play a key role in protecting lives and property through fire and life safety inspections, public education, and risk reduction efforts.
This position offers a balance of fieldwork, independence, and community engagement, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both technical work and public interaction.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
• Conduct fire and life safety inspections of commercial properties, short-term rentals, and other occupancies
• Enforce compliance with applicable fire codes, laws, ordinances, and District policies
• Review building plans, blueprints, and specifications for code compliance
• Investigate complaints and work collaboratively to resolve violations
• Maintain accurate inspection records and prepare clear, professional reports
• Participate in public education and community outreach programs
• Assist with in developing and maintaining pre-fire plans
• Support emergency management activities, including EOC operations during declared emergencies
• Engage with the community through special events and outreach initiatives
• May be required to work extended hours, respond after hours, or be on-call as needed
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Required:
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid State of Florida Driver License
• State of Florida Fire Inspector I certification
• Fire and Life Safety Educator I (or must obtain within one (1) year of hire if not already certified)
Preferred:
• Fire Inspector II and/or Fire Investigator certification
• Associate’s degree in Fire Administration, Public Administration, or related field
• Experience in fire inspections, code enforcement, public education, or related field
