The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, safe, and comfortable environment for residents, staff, and visitors in accordance with federal, state, and facility infection control and safety standards. The Housekeeper plays a key role in supporting resident dignity, quality of life, and regulatory compliance within the skilled nursing facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clean and sanitize resident rooms, bathrooms, hallways, nursing stations, offices, and common areas daily.
Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and polish floors and furniture.
Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces in accordance with infection control protocols.
Empty trash receptacles and transport waste to designated disposal areas.
Replenish supplies (soap, paper towels, toilet paper, etc.).
Clean isolation rooms following proper PPE and infection prevention guidelines.
Follow proper procedures for handling biohazard materials.
Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, or unusual findings to supervisor.
Assist with room turnovers and deep cleaning as needed.
Follow established schedules and task assignments.
Interact respectfully and courteously with residents, families, and staff.
Adhere to OSHA safety standards and facility policies.
Attend required in-services and training sessions.
Infection Control & Safety Responsibilities
Follow CDC and facility infection control guidelines.
Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Practice proper hand hygiene.
Follow chemical safety and dilution guidelines.
Ensure compliance with CMS and state survey standards.
Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or GED preferred (not required).
Experience:
Previous housekeeping experience preferred.
Experience in healthcare or long-term care setting preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of cleaning techniques and chemical usage.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good time management skills.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Basic understanding of infection prevention practices.
Customer service oriented with a positive attitude.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and carry up to 40 pounds.
