Agricultural Duties in Support of Livestock Duties. Primary Duties include: • Clearing the land to ensure it’s free from obstacles, enabling better sunlight penetration and soil aeration to enhance pasture for future grazing or planting. • Address pests and weeds to reduce their habitat and suppress the growth of invasive weeds. Remove decayed vegetation and organic waste and rejuvenate the soil for agricultural use. • Once the land has been cleared and primed for seeding of sorghum, millet, and field peas. The worker will distribute it evenly across all the acreage. Once tilled, the worker will seed by hand by spreading the seed evenly over the tilled soil. Once the seed is spread, workers will rake the entire tiled area to work the seeds into the soil. Upon completion of seeding, the worker will hand-water the seeds. • Duties include but are not limited to land clearing, soil preparation, operating tillage equipment, & cutting equipment. Perform any combination of the following duties related to preparing soil and growth media, cultivating, and participating in other agricultural activities. Hauls and spreads topsoil, fertilizer, etc, to condition land. Dig, rake, and screen soil. Proficient use of a tractor, chainsaw, and other hand tools. Livestock Duties (cattle, horses, chickens, herding dogs) • Feed and water livestock and monitor food and water supplies on a daily basis. • Clean/muck pens/kennels daily. • Heard livestock to pastures for grazing or to scales, trucks, or other enclosures. • Examine animals to detect illness, injury, or disease, and to check physical characteristics, such as rate of weight gain. • Provide medical treatment, such as administering medications and vaccinations, or arrange for veterinarians to provide more extensive treatment. • Mark livestock to identify ownership and grade, using brands, tags, paint, or tattoos. • Drive trucks, tractors, and other equipment to distribute feed to animals. • Segregate animals according to weight, age, color, and physical condition. • Inspect, maintain, and repair equipment, machinery, buildings, pens, yards, and fences. • Move equipment, poultry, or livestock from one location to another, manually or using trucks or carts. • Clean stalls, pens, and equipment, using disinfectant solutions, brushes, shovels, water hoses, or pumps. • Mix feed, additives, and medicines in prescribed portions. • Shift animals between grazing areas to ensure that they have sufficient access to food. • Perform duties related to livestock reproduction, such as breeding animals within appropriate timeframes, performing artificial inseminations, and helping with animal births. • Patrol grazing lands on horseback or using all-terrain vehicles. • Maintain growth, feeding, production, and cost records. • Spray livestock with disinfectants and insecticides or dip or bathe animals. Land Management: • Brood field mowing, disking, fertilizing, spraying, fire lane disking, control burning, pre/post-burn cleanup. • Trapping- Setting and maintaining 40 traps for invasive varmints on 3000 acres. Checking, baiting (weekly), moving, and general maintenance of traps to assist in habitat reclamation. • Grounds and feeder maintenance, spraying, fence & building maintenance. Ensure feeders are fully operational, clear of debris, and perform maintenance as necessary.
