Pineland BHDD is seeking a dedicated Substance Abuse Counselor to provide assessment, counseling, education, and recovery support services for individuals experiencing substance use disorders.
The Substance Abuse Counselor provides comprehensive substance use services, including assessments, individual and group counseling, treatment planning, and care coordination. You’ll work closely with individuals and community partners to promote recovery, reduce relapse risk, and ensure access to appropriate levels of care.
What You’ll Do
Clinical Services & Counseling
- Conduct substance use assessments and ongoing evaluations
- Provide individual, group, and family counseling focused on recovery
- Deliver substance abuse education and relapse prevention strategies
- Support individuals in engaging with self-help and recovery support groups
Care Coordination & Recovery Planning
- Assist with development and coordination of individualized treatment and aftercare plans
- Assess need for inpatient or higher levels of care and coordinate referrals when needed
- Collaborate with inpatient providers and community partners
- Help individuals build and maintain healthy social support networks
Crisis Support & Intervention
- Provide on-call crisis intervention services as needed
- Apply crisis management techniques to support individuals in high-risk situations
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete all required documentation in a timely and accurate manner
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and agency standards
- Meet established productivity and service delivery expectations
Training & Collaboration
- Provide education to staff and team members on substance use disorders and early identification
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and external providers to ensure continuity of care
Key Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge of assessment, treatment planning, and counseling techniques
- Strong understanding of community resources and recovery services
- Ability to build rapport and communicate effectively with diverse populations
- Crisis intervention and problem‑solving skills
- Strong documentation and organizational abilities
- Team-oriented with the ability to work independently
Required Qualifications
- Addiction Certification required (CADC-I or CADC-II; CAC-I or CAC-II)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in substance use treatment, crisis management, or case management
- Strong knowledge of behavioral health and substance use treatment practices
- Masters Degree preferred
