Human Resources Coordinator
Location: Augusta; Hybrid remote
Pine Tree Legal Assistance is seeking a detail-oriented Human Resources Coordinator to join our mission-based organization! Founded in 1966, PTLA is Maine’s oldest and largest civil legal aid provider offering advice, education, and free representation in civil legal matters affecting low-income individuals, such as evictions, housing discrimination, public benefits, consumer credit, domestic violence, and legal issues affecting indigenous peoples, veterans, and farmworkers.
The Human Resources Coordinator is responsible for duties related to personnel records management and benefits administration. This individual works under the supervision of the Director of Finance and Human Resources and works closely with members of the finance team, particularly with respect to payroll details and benefits-related invoicing and tracking. The HR Coordinator functions as a key member of the Administrative Office of Pine Tree Legal Assistance and provides ongoing insight and support to other members of the Administrative Office as needed. All work must be done in compliance with employment rules and policies, the PTLA Fiscal Manual and relevant audit and financial policies and guidelines, and ERISA regulations. Most of the job functions are subject to strict deadlines.

This position reports to the Director of Finance and Human Resources. Applicant must reside in, or be willing to relocate to, the state of Maine. This is a non-exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Compensation And Benefits
The salary range for PTLA paralegals and other non-exempt staff is currently $53,915 - $75,915 depending on relevant experience.

The HR Coordinator Will Be Responsible For
- Maintaining up-do-date employment records in the HRIS systems and personnel files;
- Providing responsive, thorough, and appropriate Human Resources support to staff,
- Assisting with compliance requirements by consistently and accurately maintaining records in accordance with applicable rules and systems;
- Acting as an administrator for Pine Tree’s retirement plan;
- Assisting Finance/HR Director and hiring managers with hiring and onboarding;
- Maintaining up to date benefits administration, including employee enrollments and changes;
- Assisting with updating and maintaining employee policies; and
- Assisting the Finance/HR Director in the implementation and maintenance of personnel management systems and processes.

- Strong computer proficiency in MS Office (including Word, Excel, and Outlook, with intermediate to advanced Excel skills), Adobe Acrobat Pro, and the ability to learn and use HRIS platforms;
- Strong and demonstrated organizational skills;
- Appropriate judgment in addressing and resolving sensitive and/or confidential HR issues;
- Experience with benefits administration; and
- Ability to create and maintain necessary systems to support work and work deliverables in a timely manner.
