Summary Description

The Pine School digital literacy teacher supports the mission of the school and involves the students in his/her classroom in active learning and meaningful interaction with the subject matter. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Fulfills professional responsibilities each year as evaluated by the Head of School, including:

• Instructional Responsibilities
  • Teaches a full load of classes or instructional minutes as defined by the appropriate division(s). 
  • Identifies and implements various instructional strategies to best serve the students in the classroom and follows any student educational plans. 
  • Follows or collaboratively selects long-range goals and short-term measurable objectives in alignment with the School’s curriculum.
  • Adequately manages preparation and time to create engaging lesson plans and appropriate instructional resources. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of subject matter and pedagogy.
  • Uses data and assessment results to improve instruction. 
• Maintain and enrich their expertise in computer science/digital literacy:
  • Coordinate lesson plans and Expeditions with other teachers to maximize possibilities for integrated, multi-disciplinary teaching.
  • Supports teachers with technology issues or questions. 
  • Provides technology/digital opportunities for students.
  • Teaches typing skills to students. 
  • Delivers lessons on digital safety.
• Communication Expectations
  • Documents and measures student progress in a timely manner through grading, report cards, and narratives.
  • Maintains consistent and timely communication (e.g. email, phone calls, conferences) with parents, colleagues, and students. 
• Community and Culture Involvement
  • Serves as an Advisor or homeroom teacher or assumes an alternative responsibility. 
  • Manages class time and student behaviors by establishing age-appropriate classroom expectations and procedures.
  • Engages in professional development and growth, including the annual Feedback and Observation Protocol. 
  • Attends and participates in grade/division/School-wide events and PINE community activities. 
  • Supervises students as assigned by division (e.g. car line, lunch, study hall, events, etc.]. 
  • Chaperones field trips, off-campus education trips, and other out-of-school student activities as needed. Sponsors clubs and activities as divisionally appropriate. 

Qualification Requirements

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s preferred. 
• 2-5 years of teaching experience, preferably in independent schools.
• Knowledge and understanding of best practices in educational technologies.
• Successful track record of collaboration and working with a wide range of learners.
• Outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. 
• Detail-oriented and excellent time management skills
• High-energy and enthusiastic about working in an academic atmosphere with both adults and children.
