Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Activity Director to enhance the quality of life for residents in our long-term care community. The ideal candidate will have experience in senior care, recreational therapy, or related fields, and possess strong communication skills. This role involves planning and executing engaging activities tailored to residents' needs, fostering social interaction, and supporting overall well-being. A background in dementia care, memory care, or Alzheimer's care is highly desirable. The Activity Director will work closely with residents, staff, and families to create a vibrant and supportive environment that promotes independence and joy. Certification is desired.
Duties
- Develop, organize, and lead a variety of recreational activities suited to residents’ interests and abilities, including arts and crafts, music therapy, outings, and social events
- Collaborate with nursing staff to coordinate activities that support residents’ cognitive and physical health
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed during events
- Manage activity schedules to ensure a balanced calendar of engaging programs throughout the week
- Provide counseling or guidance on aging issues and help residents maintain social connections
- Monitor resident participation and adjust activities to meet individual needs and preferences
- Maintain accurate records of resident participation and activity feedback
- Foster an inclusive environment that accommodates individuals with disabilities or special needs
- Resident Care Plan updates
Skills
- Proven experience in event planning, recreational therapy, or senior care settings such as assisted living or nursing homes
- Knowledge of Alzheimer’s care, dementia care, memory care, and caregiving best practices
- Strong communication skills for engaging with residents, families, and staff effectively
- Ability to assist residents with ADLs during activities when necessary
- Excellent schedule management skills to organize diverse programs efficiently
- Compassionate approach to working with seniors experiencing aging issues or cognitive decline
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or in home & community care environments is a plus
- Ability to foster a positive environment through creativity, patience, and empathy
