Extended School Year (ESY) – Part-Time Physical Therapist
Dates: July 6, 2026 – August 13, 2026
Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (Flexible schedule averaging approximately 2 hours per week)
Westwood Public Schools is seeking a qualified Physical Therapist to provide services during the Extended School Year (ESY) program. The Physical Therapist will deliver services in accordance with students' Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and collaborate with ESY staff to support students' access to and participation in the educational environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct physical therapy services to students as outlined in their IEPs.
- Implement therapeutic interventions designed to support students' motor development, mobility, and functional participation within the ESY setting.
- Collaborate with teachers, related service providers, nursing staff, and administrators to address students' physical and mobility needs.
- Consult with ESY staff regarding positioning, transfers, adaptive equipment, and strategies to maximize student access and safety.
- Maintain appropriate documentation of services provided and student progress in accordance with district procedures and applicable regulations.
Qualifications
- Current Massachusetts licensure as a Physical Therapist.
- Experience working with school-aged children, preferably in a school setting.
- Knowledge of special education regulations and the implementation of IEP services.
- Strong communication, organizational, and collaborative skills.

Job Environment
Work takes place primarily within a school setting, including classrooms, therapy spaces, offices, gyms, cafeterias, hallways, and other designated instructional areas. This position is performed primarily indoors within a high performing school district that maintains high expectations for staff and students.
Physical Requirements
- Requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, and occasional lifting or carrying of up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to assist with student positioning, transfers, and mobility needs as appropriate.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person and by telephone.
- Ability to hear and respond to sounds and verbal communication in a school environment.
- Travel among school buildings may be required.
