Job Overview:
A Corrections Registered Nurse (RN) provides essential healthcare services within correctional facilities (3x12). This role involves delivering comprehensive nursing care to inmates, ensuring their physical and mental well-being, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to maintain a safe and secure environment.
Job Duties:
- Patient Assessment: Conduct initial and ongoing assessments of inmates' health status, including physical examinations, medical history reviews, and mental health evaluations.
- Treatment and Care: Administer medications, provide wound care, perform minor procedures, and manage chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. Performing other general nursing duties such as cardiac monitoring, catheter management, venipuncture, IVs, diabetic lines, etc.
- Emergency Response: Respond to medical emergencies within the facility, providing first aid and emergency care as needed.
- Health Education: Educate inmates on health maintenance, disease prevention, and medication management.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and confidential medical records, documenting assessments, treatments, and patient progress.
- Collaboration: Work closely with physicians, mental health professionals, and other healthcare providers to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Compliance: Ensure all nursing practices adhere to state regulations, facility policies, and professional standards.
- Security: Maintain a secure environment by adhering to facility protocols and ensuring the safety of inmates and staff.
Qualifications:
- Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Michigan.
- Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
- Experience: previous experience in corrections, emergency room, or psychiatric nursing preferred.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
- Skills: Strong clinical assessment skills, ability to work independently, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and proficiency in electronic health record systems.
