Job Summary
The grade six teacher will develop a classroom environment that supports students’ academic and social-emotional development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops and delivers lesson plans across subject areas
- Prioritizes equity and inclusion in instructional practices, as well as in interactions with students, families, and colleagues
- Assesses students to evaluate their abilities, strengths, and areas for growth
- Delivers instruction in both whole-classroom and smaller-group settings
- Communicates with parents or guardians about their child’s progress
- Works with students individually to help them overcome specific learning challenges
- Prepares students for standardized tests
- Develops and maintains classroom structures that promote the social-emotional conditions known to support learning
- Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day, including field trips, service days, and field days
- Carries out any other duties that may be reasonably assigned by administration
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree; master’s degree preferred
- 5 years of experience in education
Physical Requirements
This position requires a moderate amount of walking, standing, sitting, and climbing stairs whenever necessary. Activities also include moderate physical exertion in body movement, such as reaching, bending, twisting, grasping, pushing, and pulling of objects. This position requires lifting objects of 20 pounds on a frequent basis, and over 20 pounds occasionally. There is a frequent requirement of fine manipulation associated with the required use of a computer and other business machines.
