Reports to: Golf Course Superintendent

Located 11 miles from downtown Boston in Weston Massachusetts, Pine Brook Country Club enjoys a reputation as one of the finest private clubs in Massachusetts. PBCC wants to expand and continue growing its leadership team, adding an Assistant Superintendent. The Assistant Superintendent will be vital in executing all daily operations required to provide a consistently, fast, firm, and manicured golf course. The selected candidate will work hand in hand with the Golf Course Superintendent and other Assistants to ensure optimal course conditions throughout the season. The candidate will meet bi-weekly with the Superintendent and the leadership group, reviewing agronomic practices, budgets, and HR-related matters.

This position will focus on grooming individuals to become forward thinkers, self-starters, and most importantly, team players. The ability to solve problems, make timely decisions, and have strong attention to detail are important traits for this position. Leadership experience is desired and will be developed in this role. Expectations of the Assistant Superintendent are to help coach and mentor inexperienced staff explaining our short and long-term goals and the “why” behind them. Patience and composure are key traits to be successful at this job. Strong communication skills with the ability to answer questions honestly and accurately from staff and members is paramount. The goal of this position is to plan, prepare, and place to become a successful Golf Course Superintendent at a high-end private club.

Primary Responsibilities:

· Ensure State and local environmental, health, and security standards/regulations and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards are always met

· Work alongside the Superintendent, Sr. Assistant Superintendent, and other Assistants creating and managing daily task lists for an in-season staff of 30 people

· Assist with recruiting, hiring, and training all grounds laborer positions

· Responsible for calibrating and applying plant protectants to necessary playing surfaces

· Manage pesticide and fertilizer inventory

· Monitor water usage, with strong and practical water management skills

· Properly care for and maintain our equipment fleet

· Ability to audit, repair, and maintain Toro irrigation system and its components

o This includes understanding Lynx irrigation software

· Lead by example, be approachable, and hold peers accountable

· Manage contractors throughout our property

· Attend grounds and green committee meetings at appropriate times

· Lead crews during in-house course enhancement projects

· Manage staff during snow removal

· Assist with ordering and handling material deliveries

· Be familiar with budget and tracking expenses

· Additional duties as directed by the Golf Course Superintendent

Required Skills:

· Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in Turfgrass Management or related field. Turfgrass Management Certificate also acceptable

· Team player willing to do whatever is needed to help the team

· Valid driver’s license

· Possess a Massachusetts Pesticide Applicators License or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire

· Strong attention to detail

· Excellent communication skills

· Teach, coach, mentor staff

· Knowledge of current federal, state and local laws and regulations affecting the management of golf course operations (including, but not limited to, employment, safety and environmental standards, laws and regulations)

· Ability to perform extreme physical work; may be required to lift up to 50 pounds frequently, standing 8-10 hours/day, performing such activities as bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling and lifting

Required Work Habits:

· Regular attendance, punctual, teamwork, initiative, dependability and promptness. Early morning, weekend, and holidays required

Working Conditions:

· Can be exposed to extreme conditions including but not limited to chemicals such as pesticides, extreme cold/hot temperatures, wind, rain, and other weather conditions

Compensation and Benefits:

· Hourly - $23-$25/hr., Depending on experience

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 – 50 per week
