The Junior High Assistant Principal will provide support to the instructional process with specific responsibility for directing assigned programs and services at the junior high school level; assisting in creating and maintaining an educational atmosphere in support of the district’s goals and objectives; providing information and serving as a resource to others; supervising assigned staff; coordinating school activities and addressing issues, situations and/or problems that arise on campus or with enrolled students.

 

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Education Administration
  • Arkansas Certification in Education Administration at the middle school level or junior high level, with at least three years of experience required
  • Must possess at least three (3) years of successful experience as a teacher, with some experience at the middle school or junior high level
  • Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of the current issues, principles, and practices in public middle school or junior high education and the ability to apply them to the needs of a school
  • Must possess knowledge and effective skills in curriculum development, instructional practices, and interpretation of test data
  • Must possess the ability to assist with administering and managing the operation of a middle school or junior high
  • Must possess the ability to plan and supervise the work of others
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and the public
  • Must be able to write with clarity and conciseness, and use correct grammar, spelling, and appropriate language

 Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates instructional leadership to enhance school effectiveness by improving instruction and augmenting student performance
  • Demonstrates cognitive skills to gather, analyze, and synthesize information to reach goals
  • Assists the principal in all aspects of school leadership for the purpose of enabling staff and students to attain district goals and objectives
  • Assists in the implementation of processes, policies, and procedures for the purpose of providing direction and/or complying with mandated requirements
  • Develops a program of extra-class activities that is functional in the middle school or junior high environment for the purpose of providing quality education and experiences for students that are consistent with the goals and objectives of the district
  • Facilitates communication between personnel, students, and/or parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems, and/or resolving conflicts
  • Develops and maintains positive communication with the community
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the program, curriculum, and instruction
  • Supervises assigned building personnel for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth, and achieving overall objectives of the district’s curriculum
  • Assumes responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal
  • Assists in establishing the school’s student discipline plan and the school’s plan for ensuring a safe and orderly environment
  • Conferences with parents/guardians of students concerning discipline, attendance, and student behavior
  • Seeks a way to develop and sustain a climate of mutual respect between and among the students and adults who participate in the school
  • Performs additional reasonable job-related responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or appropriate administrator.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, sit, and use fingers, tools, or controls.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus, and depth perception.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift to 25 lbs.
