GENERAL DUTIES

Operate district vehicles of various sizes to safely transport students and support district programs. Follow established procedures to ensure vehicles are safe to operate at all times.


QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility and function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

Education / Work Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Oregon School Bus Driver’s Certificate, or the ability to obtain both.

  • Successful completion of fingerprinting and background check.

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work harmoniously and collaboratively with others.

  • Ability and willingness to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and administration.

  • Maintain confidentiality of information relating to students, staff, and district operations.

  • Proficient in computer and internet-based applications (e.g., email, district systems).

  • Physically capable of performing job duties.

  • Ability to work independently without close supervision.

  • Enjoy working with students and maintaining a positive rapport.

  • Ability to interact effectively with the public.

  • Demonstrated competence and aptitude for assigned responsibilities.

  • Ability to follow directions and apply sound judgment in a variety of situations.

  • Ability to assess situations quickly and act appropriately to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing job conditions.


RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment.

  2. Complete all required annual online trainings by district deadlines.

  3. Follow site and/or district procedures for reporting absences.

  4. Utilize district electronic systems and applications related to assigned duties.

  5. Safely transport students to and from school and activities.

  6. Verify students are assigned to the correct bus route.

  7. Communicate with the Transportation Supervisor regarding mechanical or safety issues.

  8. Comply with all traffic laws and regulations.

  9. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.

  10. Ensure the safety and supervision of all students on the bus.

  11. Maintain order and discipline to ensure a safe environment.

  12. Report discipline issues to the Transportation Supervisor and/or Principal.

  13. Develop and maintain vehicle evacuation plans; conduct student evacuation drills.

  14. Assist students in boarding and exiting the bus as needed.

  15. Immediately report all accidents or incidents to the Transportation Supervisor.

  16. Clean and maintain the interior and exterior of district vehicles.

  17. Comply with random drug testing requirements.

  18. Perform other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the district.

j) Maintain confidentiality regarding student, staff, and district matters.
k) Foster a friendly and cooperative atmosphere with supervisors, coworkers, students, and the community.
