GENERAL DUTIES

Instructional Aides provide educational support to all students under the direction of licensed staff. They assist with instructional tasks, supervise students in various settings, and monitor for safety concerns.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility and function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

Education / Work Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)

  • Associate's degree or a minimum of 72 college credits (preferred)

  • Experience working with children

  • Current First Aid and CPR certification, or ability to obtain

  • Must pass a fingerprint-based background check

SKILLS

  • Effective oral and written communication

  • Proficient in elementary-level math

  • Basic proficiency in computers and internet-based applications (email, data systems)

  • Ability to work independently and without close supervision

  • Enjoy working with and supporting students

  • Ability to follow directions and adapt to changing conditions

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize

  • Good judgment in assessing situations and responding appropriately for student/staff safety

  • Professionalism in behavior, communication, and appearance

  • Strong interpersonal skills with students, staff, and the public

RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Model respectful behavior and promote a positive learning environment

  2. Complete all required annual trainings by designated deadlines

  3. Follow established district/site protocols for attendance and absence reporting

  4. Use assigned district systems and tools for communication and instruction

  5. Assist licensed staff in planning and delivering instruction aligned with student needs and learning goals

  6. Help establish and reinforce classroom behavior expectations

  7. Motivate students toward achievement of learning objectives

  8. Provide one-on-one or small group instructional support

  9. Give clear directions and check for student understanding

  10. Support and implement Positive Behavior Support practices

  11. Manage student behavior in alignment with district policies, IEPs, and legal requirements

  12. Assist in acquiring and organizing instructional materials and supplies

  13. Help maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning

  14. Record and submit student data as requested

  15. Supervise students in common areas (e.g., playground, cafeteria, hallways, bus loading zones)

  16. Assist students with mobility needs, including lifting or transferring

  17. Maintain current CPR/First Aid certification and follow medical protocols as necessary

  18. Support students with physical needs, including toileting, feeding, or therapy routines

  19. Assist with medical procedures (e.g., G-tube feeding, suctioning, catheterization) under supervision of a nurse

  20. Respect student privacy and dignity during personal care tasks

  21. Maintain professional conduct and appearance

  22. Perform other duties as assigned to support district goals

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work occurs both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions

  • Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, illness, or bodily fluids may occur

  • Exposure to inappropriate student or adult behavior is possible

  • Any change in contract days will be outlined in the employee’s contract

  • Salary and benefits will follow the Pilot Rock Education Association agreement

  • Schedule and assignments will be determined by the site principal
