Position: Precision Machinist 1 in Surface & OD Grinding
Classification: Full-Time - Hourly, Non-Exempt
Reports to: Production Supervisor
Schedule: Day Shift, Mon-Fri

Pilot’s purpose-built factory houses the most modern machining and grinding equipment for cutting tool manufacturing with new machinery arriving regularly. The state-of-the-art factory is fully climate-controlled, well-lit and a safe and comfortable place to work.
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities
- Set up and operate one or more grinding machines to produce parts according to blueprint specifications
- Read and interpret blueprints, job orders, and written or verbal instructions to determine product specifications, including finishes, dimensions, tolerances, quantities, fixturing, and grinding wheels required
- Dress grinding wheels to specification using appropriate dressing techniques
- Monitor machine operation and perform routine daily maintenance on equipment and work areas
- Complete all required production and inspection documentation accurately and in a timely manner
- Report equipment issues, quality concerns, or production discrepancies to the immediate supervisor
- Maintain tools, gauges, and equipment in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Demonstrate a willingness and ability to learn additional skills, including CNC machine operation
- Work in a close-tolerance environment (±0.0005 inches); experience working to tight tolerances is preferred
- Comply with all company safety policies and procedures. Safety is the top priority
- Perform work in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 standards and requirements
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or trade school certification required
- Knowledge of manufacturing principles, standards, and regulatory compliance is preferred
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, and various gauges
- Two or more years of machining experience in a production manufacturing environment preferred
- Familiarity with 5s or 6s is a plus
