Summary:
The Administrative Assistant - Police performs a variety of routine and complex clerical, secretarial and administrative work including maintaining official records, providing administrative support to the Chief of Police and assisting in the administration of the standard operating policies and procedures of the police department.
Education & Certifications Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent, with specialized coursework in office administration, typing, filing, accounting, bookkeeping, or related fields.
- Associate degree in business administration, office management, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in clerical, administrative, or office management work, preferably in a law enforcement or government setting.
- Proficiency in office software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and database management systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficient in computers and the current version of MS Office Suite.
- Strong working knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
- Excellent understanding of business English, including grammar, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
- Ability to effectively interact with the public, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to compose clear and professional correspondence.
- Ability to manage stressful situations calmly and efficiently.
- Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to apply policies and procedures to various work situations.
- Competency in maintaining police records and preparing technical reports for the Chief of Police.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with discretion.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
