What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Specialist position at Pilot Point Independent School District?
Primary Purpose:
Provide specialized instruction to students receiving special education services while serving as a campus-based instructional leader and compliance support for special education and Section 504. This role blends direct service, coaching, and systems coordination to ensure high-quality instruction, legal compliance, and effective implementation of IEPs and 504 plans.
The Specialist supports campus staff through coaching, modeling, and problem-solving to improve outcomes for students with disabilities and ensures compliance with IDEA, Section 504, and district expectations.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements
- Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Administration, or related field (preferred)
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a special education teacher
- Experience supporting or coaching adult learners (preferred)
- Experience with 504 processes and compliance (preferred)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Deep knowledge of:
- IDEA, Section 504, and Texas special education regulations (TEC/TAC)
- ARD/IEP development, implementation, and progress monitoring
- 504 plan development and compliance requirements
Strong instructional expertise in:
- Differentiation, specially designed instruction (SDI), and inclusion practices
- Behavior supports (PBIS, trauma-informed practices, ABA principles)
Ability to:
- Coach and support teachers using adult learning best practices
- Facilitate ARD and 504 meetings effectively
- Analyze student data and drive instructional decisions
Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills
