POSITION OVERVIEW
The primary objective of this position is to provide employment and training opportunities for up to 12 months to young people between the ages of 18-24 years looking to gain experience in the area of youth work and street outreach. Peer Outreach Apprentices will work in collaboration with professional Street Outreach Workers to gain the experience, training and industry recognized certification necessary to pursue future employment opportunities, specifically within social services with a focus on street outreach and youth work. Peer Outreach Apprentices will learn and practice professional skills to build positive and supportive relationships with young people experiencing homelessness. Apprentices will work to connect youth to information, supplies and community resources in an effort to increase their self-sufficiency and independence while maintaining their health and safety.
Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
Strategy and Thought Leadership
- Assist FC staff in staying relevant and informed to trends, culture, trainings, events, and best practices, as they pertain to services for unhoused youth in the metro area.
Operations and Outcomes
- Assist in collecting and tracking necessary data and outcomes of various youth services, including Street Outreach, Free Bike Program, Full Cycle Food Delivery, and Borrow-A-Bike program, etc.
- Participate in the cleanliness and organization of both the Full Cycle classroom and shop.
People and Community Development
- Commit to learning about and practicing the following professional skills over the course of 12 months: Make effective referrals to resources and homeless youth-serving agencies, practice non-judgement and Harm Reduction strategies, maintain and model professional and ethical boundaries, develop healthy and helpful relationships with Full Cycle youth participants, provide crisis intervention and conflict resolution as needed.
- Successfully complete Street Works Outreach Worker training certification (up to 60 hrs).
- Attend all required trainings, orientations, and meetings.
- Build and maintain deep, relevant, and current knowledge of local resources, systems and opportunities for youth experiencing homelessness.
- Conduct street and site-based outreach to youth experiencing homelessness or otherwise street engaged, while participating in the StreetWorks Collaborative, and promoting Full Cycle youth services. Approx. 20 hours a week
- Maintain ongoing relationships with Full Cycle Interns, while making referrals and offering support as they work to gain stability and achieve personal goals.
Financial Management
- Document and report the distribution of monetary goods (bus tokens, bus cards, rental assistance etc.)
- Track personal job related expenses (mileage, outreach related expenses including weather appropriate clothing and gear)

- Personal experience with or knowledge of homelessness, housing instability, street culture, and community resources.
