Regulatory Ingredients Specialist II

Purpose and Scope/General Summary: The Regulatory Ingredients Specialist II is part of our Research & Development team and reports directly to Senior Ingredients & Nutrition Regulatory Manager. This role supports the development of food products by accurately reviewing product and ingredient specifications that help drive plant production. In addition, this role also supports planning and conducting ingredient supplier audits ensuring ingredient suppliers are following standard food safety and quality policies and procedures. The role is also responsible for assisting with the creation of new ingredients and their ongoing management, ensuring federal compliance and accuracy within the company. The overall goal of this role is to support both research and development as well as plant teams in ingredient production, safety, and logistics. This role is a direct resource for all ingredient inquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Audit and publish product specifications for Pilgrim’s processing plants within PLM recipe development.
  • Maintain BRC audit process plant support through food fraud audits.
  • Maintain communication site between Pilgrims and co-manufacturers including product specifications and vital plant ingredient inventory information.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Regulatory, Labeling, Product Developers, Marketing, Quality Assurance, and Insights and Innovation Team to help the company be productive in the marketplace.
  • Manage and prioritize multiple projects at once with assistance from manager, including shelf-life extensions, supplier visits, audits, and corrective actions. This includes leading, planning, scheduling, and performing several audits a year.
  • Assist the ingredient manager with the creation and maintenance of ingredient specifications in accordance with federal regulation standards.
  • Compile timely and accurate answers to internal and external regulatory questions pertaining to allergens, product formulations, and claims.
  • Perform supplier audits, implement corrective actions, and manage supplier relationship projects.
  • Reduce ingredient FSQA related quality issues.
  • Evaluate and manage ingredient suppliers’ regulatory documentation including technical documents, 3rd party certifications, and letters of guarantee.
  • Stay informed of USDA changes to regulations that impact food, nutrition, and allergen policies, and product claim substantiation.
  • Conduct supplier scorecard presentations in conjunction with manager and cross-functional teams.
  • Conduct foreign material and food quality investigations through resolutions
  • Participate and lead with manager in training to cross-functional team.
  • Actively pursue professional development through continued education and training.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Dietetics, or related technical field preferred
  • 2-3 years of related professional experience
  • Registered Dietitian, RD preferred
  • SQF/BRC/Food Auditing Certification preferred
  • At least 2-3 years of experience in a consumer-packaged goods company, preferred
  • Serve-Safe Certified preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Highly attentive to detail, self-motivated
  • SAP experience preferred
  • Excellent organization skills, project management skills, and the ability to multitask
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Knowledge of USDA regulatory landscape in the US as it relates to food product claims, claims substantiation, food and nutrition policies, allergen policies, and food safety, preferred
  • Ability to manage cross-functional and external collaborations and projects
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills; ability to create solutions
  • Ability to travel 25-30% of the time
  • Can perform the functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation

The applicant who fills this position will be eligible for the following compensation and benefits:

  • Benefits: Vision, Medical, and Dental coverage begin after 60 days of employment;
  • Paid Time Off: sick leave, vacation, and 6 company observed holidays;
  • 401(k): company match begins after the first year of service and follows the company vesting schedule;
  • Base salary range of $68,000-$72,000;
  • Incentive Pay: This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s annual bonus plan, the amount of bonus varies and is subject to the standard terms and conditions of the incentive program; and
