About the Role

The Slitter Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring slitter machines that cut large rolls of material into smaller rolls or required widths based on production orders and customer specifications. This role includes setting up materials, verifying blades, cores, wind direction, and machine settings, checking product quality throughout the run, completing required paperwork, and maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work area. The Slitter Operator also supports production efficiency by preparing materials for upcoming jobs, identifying equipment concerns, and communicating effectively during shift hand-offs.

1. Primary Duties

  • Proficiently navigate the Epicor system, accurately complete required paperwork, and stock the appropriate materials needed to perform daily job assignments.
  • Maintain slitter machines and the immediate work area in clean, organized, and safe conditions.
  • Verify that the correct blades, cores, and wind direction are selected and used for each production order.
  • Identify and report machine maintenance issues that could impact quality, safety, or production, and coordinate with Maintenance as needed.
  • Review the production schedule and ensure the correct work orders are prepared and staged for the next scheduled run.
  • Become familiar with warehouse inventory and anticipate material requirements to minimize production delays.
  • Ensure all completed production runs meet established quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Conduct a thorough shift hand-off with the incoming operator before leaving the work area.

2. Additional Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a willingness to be cross-trained and operate multiple machines within the department.
  • Work effectively as part of a team and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers.

3. Quality Control Responsibilities

  • Report on any safety concerns.
  • Perform dyne testing as required, verify wind direction, and collect and properly store retain samples for quality records.
  • Verify that all slitter machine settings are correct and approved before production begins. Every new order must be reviewed and signed off by a second qualified individual (Quality Control, Supervisor, or another trained operator) prior to startup.

4. Education and Certifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Forklift certification or training preferred.

5. Knowledge and Skills

  • Consistently practice safe work habits and comply with all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements and company safety procedures.
  • Working knowledge of 5S principles and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

6. Compensation and Benefits

· Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications.

· Benefits package available, which may include health insurance, paid time off, holiday pay, retirement plan options, and other company-sponsored benefits.

7. Work Schedule

· Shift hours: 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

· Rotating weekly schedule: Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday one week; Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday the next week.

· Schedule rotates on an alternating weekly basis.
